Subject: Intracare Implementation Log Episode 36: Patient movement and tracking?
Alright so I have insurance displaying in Patient Inquiry. I'm now
wanting to move and track the patient around the hospital. I notice in
Patient Inquiry that this line exists:
Status : PATIENT HAS NO INPATIENT OR LODGER ACTIVITY IN THE COMPUTER
I presume that this might have something to do with patient movement
and tracking? Is there an overview on how physical movement and
tracking of a patient within the facility is done? Thanks!

So it is DG Admit patient to admit them, but that looks like it
requires a Ward for them to be admitted too. How does one setup a Ward
and individual rooms? For example, we a floor that is divided into two
sides. The first has rooms numbered 300-313 each with 2 beds so a
patient can be assigned to for example 300A or 300B. The other side
of the floor ranges from 314A-326B Is there a preferred way to set

1) Institution is defined in the Institution file.
a) Division is defined in the Medical Center Division file
b) Hospital Location is defined in the Hospital Location file.
There a number of things a Hospital Location can be such as:
i. Clinic
ii. Ward
iii. Module
iv. Imaging station
v. Operating room.
vi. Other
There's more but I'll stop there. So I'm setting us up as a Ward.

So I have a Intracare Hospital System-->Intracare South-->ICHS Adult
ward defined and Active, but when I try to DG Admit ZZwrong, Patient
it gets hung up on WARD LOCATION and does not see ICHS Adult as a
valid, active ward.

Yes, I entered a few rooms by going to DG SYSTEM DEFINITION MENU-->Add/
Edit beds. However, when I try to DG Admit ZZwrong, Patient it still
gets hung up on WARD LOCATION and in fact does not recognize that
there are any wards with beds even though I have ICHS Adult as well as
NUR ICHS Adult defined. -- IV

The trick is to put something into G&L number. If you do not add a G&L
number for the ward the ward will not appear in WARD LOCATION list
when you try to admit the patient. I put in 5 for G&L which stands for
Gains and Losses. The number is simply a placeholder for where this
will appear in a report but apparently is very necessary.

Summary: These are the essential menus for how to define a ward, add
beds, admit and discharge a patient so it shows where they are via the
Patient Inquiry report(click on the patient name button in CPRS) and
do the Gains and Losses reports. Biggest trick is you have to enter a
G&L number when defining a ward and this is simply a place holder like
5, 10, 15, etc.

can see what is enqueued and finally shows the first report which does
not show much.

Just so people don't get confused about the provider, I believe that the
provider for that roster will not be the same provider that is listed as the
primary care physician when using PCMM for outpatient assignment of a patient
to a primary care physician and team.

Say, DG INPATIENT ROSTER prints at 132 columns which is painful on
screen even if you have the display maximized on a 17 inch display and
set to 132 in putty.exe. It still wraps around the last 5 or so
characters rendering it dreadful. I don't particularly need the ID or
Means Test fields. Is there a way to compact the screen display
