Welcome to the Notifications Configuration Page.
What Are Notifications?
It's a message generated by the system at specific events. Notifications are the closest thing to an SMS text message you will get in VISTA. Notifications are intended to be more 'real time' than a mail message in mailman is, in that VISTA keeps bugging you until you process them. Some common messages are:
- Lab Results
- Note needs to be signed
- Order needs to be signed
- New Consult
You have to be very careful on how you configure notifications: not to deliver too many, and they actually are processed by the users. Many patient related events are relayed through the notification system; as such, proper use is essential to the functioning of VISTA as an EMR.
Notifications are handled by the alert system in the kernel. All notifications are alerts; but not all alerts are notifications. An alert is a notification only if it has a patient associated with it.
Pre Configuration
For each, you need to ask these questions?
- On/Off/Mandatory?
- Who should get the notification? The user who entered it?; the provider under whom the order was written?; the OE/RR Team?
For some, you may need to ask these questions, but usually these settings are adjusted later.
- Urgency of Notification (High/Medium/Low)
- Should Deletion happen when a single person processes it, or when all recipients process it?
- Should a certain entity (person or group) always get the notification?
Here is the list of Notifications that comes with VISTA. Some of them are duds, like the one for Order Co-Signature (there is no such thing in VISTA: only note co-signature). Of note, TIU does not use this list for generating notifications; it uses its own settings.
