Non-Veteran Patients
From VistApedia
VistA, especially the WorldVistA EHR variant, is able to handle patients that are not armed forces veterans.
This is handled two ways:
1) specifying the TYPE Field #391 from the PATIENT File #2 to not be a VETERAN. There currently are at least ten (10) types of PATIENTS in the TYPE OF PATIENT File #391. ACTIVE DUTY ALLIED VETERAN COLLATERAL EMPLOYEE MILITARY RETIREE NON-VETERAN (OTHER) NSC VETERAN SC VETERAN TRICARE VISTA OFFICE EHR
The most suitable for non-VA patients is VISTA OFFICE EHR It is possible to add a specialized type as well for your system.
As you can see, the definition of the entries specifies a lot of details about how the various entries are used and which parts of the registry process is included. 2) The other aspect is to specify the eligibility code of the patient. This is stored in the ELIGIBILITY CODE File #8 which is pointed to by the PRIMARY ELIGIBILITY CODE field (#.361) of the PATIENT File (#2). This field contains the site specific name for the eligibility. In most cases the name will be the same as the MAS ELIGIBILITY CODE pointed to by the MAS ELIGIBILITY CODE field of the ELIGIBILITY CODE FILE #8. The possible entries in this file are: 1 SERVICE CONNECTED 50% to 100% 1 1 VETERAN 2 AID & ATTENDANCE 2 2 VETERAN 3 SC LESS THAN 50% 3 3 VETERAN 4 NSC, VA PENSION 4 4 VETERAN 5 NSC 5 5 VETERAN 6 OTHER FEDERAL AGENCY 4 4 NON-VETERAN 7 ALLIED VETERAN 5 5 NON-VETERAN 8 HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY 6 6 NON-VETERAN 9 SHARING AGREEMENT 7 7 NON-VETERAN 10 REIMBURSABLE INSURANCE 8 8 NON-VETERAN 11 DOM.
